Abolition Summer 2022 Book Recommendations

Join the Feminist Bubble on Instagram and Facebook to be a part of our inaugural book club series, Abolition Summer 2022.

We've curated our top ten reading selections that highlight Black Feminists, Indigenous Writers, and Critical Theorists that are imagining future worlds through meaningful collaboration.

From Angela Davis to Patrisse Cullors, Joy Harjo to Toni Morrison, adrienne maree brown to Claudia Rankine, there is no shortage of genius in our Abolition Summer reading list. We invite you to read along, and discover the power of intellectual engagement in Critical Race Studies.

Read at your own pace, in your own particular order. Find community support online at the Feminist Bubble on Facebook & Instagram where you can find links to each title, where to buy, and additional sources for a deeper dive.

Creative Content

Feminist Bubble will feature weekly sources of interactive videos & photographs with information

to uplift the spirit, strengthen the body, and engage in discourse around feminist topics.

Mindful Mondays is a day to start the week off fresh with deep conscious breathing techniques,

and mantras to help them ground themselves in the work & goals they set out to accomplish.

Wellness Wednesdays is an opportunity to check in with ourselves, take care of our personal health,

and remind ourselves that Love starts with Us.

Feminist Fridays will be a source of social engagement, diving into diverse dialogues around

intersectional feminist narratives. This could be anything from pop-culture to current events.

Equal Representation:

With the WeWork creator award resources, grants, and funding I will be able to organize and host workshops that tap into our creative collective spirit. An opportunity to share in beloved community, I will lead classes in anything from guided visual meditations, mindful breathing, feminist book clubs, writing exercises, and hand-knotting mantra beads.

Inspiration & Research

Feminist Bubble builds on my personal herstory of social activism & political engagement in the community — from Los Angeles to Las Vegas, Holland to Hawai’i.

I maintain an extensive transnational network of friendships, collaborators, and community organizations around the world, committed to a shared vision of feminist liberation & leadership.

Within every local I find myself, I become fully immersed in the cultural environments, documenting my experiences through photography, videography, poetry, and improvisational practice of yoga & mindful mediation.

I have been practicing yoga for nearly a decade, and within that time I’ve learned to slow down, take in the present moment with conscious breathing, and discover my true purpose & Highest Self through Mindful Meditation.

Building On Previous Work

After graduating from UCLA, I created the Feminist Bubble website using a Wix website builder. The page was designed to engage readers through academic articles, editorials, and online photo galleries. The navigation menu features the Feminine Gaze, a critical examination of women in the media from a feminist perspective. In/Formation provides links to educational resources and articles celebrating the accomplishments of women.

With the WeWork Creator Award for Community Givers, I plan to build a completely new website & home for the Feminist Bubble to make it more teen oriented, and user friendly. The updated, new & improved site will feature stories highlighted on Instagram & Snapchat, and will also include interviews with self-identified feminists, and the social change they’re creating in their communities. Centering herstorical narratives of important women in the struggle for full equality & personal autonomy, the site will also share resources uplifting content creators who are introducing a new generation of Feminists to the public.

Many of my previous projects were composed & crafted while completing my undergraduate studies at UCLA and during international scholarship in the Netherlands. They were intended for an academic audience with a high level of scholastic engagement & critical understanding. However, the goal is to shift the Feminist Bubble platform to engage a younger audience in conversations with educational resources and activities. Any material used from my previous work will be distilled into clear & concise articles, transcribing complex ideas into accessible language that young people can understand and engage with.

Community Learning

The community will learn about integrating their full personhood & humanity to be their most authentic selves — Mind, Body, Soul, and Spirit. I’d like the audience to come away feeling more informed & empowered in not only knowing what feminism is all about, but feeling confident in owning their unique Feminist identities.

The Feminist Bubble project will be supported by visual powerpoint presentations, reflecting my journey to creating healthy learning environments. Leading the community through Mindful Meditation practices, I will encourage audiences to participate in grounding exercises to raise their vibrational levels of active consciousness.

I am excited to have the opportunity to learn and collaborate with a collective of WeWork Creative Artists, Innovators, and Content Creators. At the moment I do not have all the tools and resources available to bring my creative vision and artistic talent to life. With access to a network of WeWork talent and resource, I am confident in the positive social impact Feminist Bubble can inspire within the next generation of change makers, leaders, and influences.
